Chemistry and microbiology knowledge, an interest in chemical formulation or antimicrobial work, a passion to start research.

Complete CHM 3120: Analytical Chemistry, all university required EHS courses for laboratory safety, chemical safety, and biohazard safety.

Description

Our laboratory develops new chemical materials for applications in agriculture and biomedicine. A major focus of our research is controlling plant pathogens, including bacteria and fungi that cause diseases in important crops. These pathogens can reduce crop yields, spread rapidly through agricultural systems, and lead to significant economic losses. By developing new antimicrobial materials, we aim to provide more effective, sustainable approaches to disease management.

Undergraduate students will gain hands-on experience in chemical synthesis and learn how to characterize newly synthesized materials using a variety of analytical techniques. Students also perform microbiological assays to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of these materials against plant and human pathogens.
