Are the Weekly Team Member Survey results shared with team leaders?
Yes, responses related to team progress are shared with the team leader, but private comments can be submitted for KRSP administration only.
Is there a minimum time commitment to be certified as a Knight Research Scholar?
Yes, to be eligible for a Knight Research Scholars Program Certification, team members must be actively involved in the program for at least one full academic semester. This includes consistent research engagement and completion of all program requirements during that time.
What is the purpose of the Weekly Team Member Surveys?
Weekly Team Member Surveys encourage reflection on their individual contributions, learning experiences, and engagement in the project. They also provide a way to communicate feedback to their team leader and the KRSP program administrators.
What kind of questions are included in the Weekly Team Member Surveys?
Surveys include short-answer questions about weekly tasks, time spent, challenges, and takeaways. There is also a Likert scale matrix that captures their confidence, motivation, and sense of contribution to the team’s progress.
I would like to register for a team, but I do not see any open slots. What should I do?
Sometimes our teams fill up entirely before there is a chance to register new projects. The best thing to do is to check back regularly, especially if you are looking toward the end of the semester in preparation for the next semester.
Must I have a high GPA to become involved?
The Knight Research Scholars Program itself does not have any requirements for previous experience, classification, or minimum GPA. However, each team may develop its own set of qualifications. In general, students prove their potential to do research by joining the team. Those who show potential may be asked to return in the following semesters.
How do I join a team?
Once you find a research project (Project List – Knight Research Scholars Program) of interest, contact the Team Leader about available positions. If selected, you will receive an email notification with the registration form. Team Leaders can accept new members year-round, though most students join before the start of a semester.
Will I have the opportunity to obtain letters of recommendation?
Yes! KRSP creates opportunities to build strong, sustained relationships with graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty through meaningful research collaboration. By contributing consistently and professionally to your team, you position yourself to earn thoughtful, personalized letters of recommendation. Be sure to communicate your goals early and request letters well in advance of any deadlines.
How many hours per week will I have to dedicate to research?
Each project has a different hour requirement, set by the Team Leader. Please contact the team leader of the project of interest for more information on time expectations.
